Gardening, art and putting this all together IS an integral part of our program. It brings together the goal of working in a recovering community that is visible and available to the local community. We believe that we need to be in the middle of our local community – showing others what recovery can look like – so help is close by. We aren’t just a hotline or a front desk – we bring what we grow and we make into a space where we are recognized as a movement.
Standing as a symbol of hope for others and closely available to partner with people who might need help, our recovery is in the plants we grow and the art work we create as we work together. But it is nothing if it is not open and available to those who have questions and concerns about themselves and/or their friends and family. For that reason we stay visible and active in our local community. The greenhouse and art installation is our invitation. The model of each woman’s personal success as she begins her new life. This is what recovery looks like at The Cedar House.
Along the way we learn to work together, get up early, show up and to once again allow ourselves to dream of a larger life. We participate and share not only the space we’ve opened to the public but the space we’ve opened up in ourselves. The open space within ourselves welcomes hope, healing and helping others along our own journey.
